The Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications for Pakistan, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said that the establishment of a National Digital Commission (NDC) would be done to accelerate the vision of a “Digital Pakistan.” She stated this while speaking during the National Broadband Forum held in Islamabad. The legislation for the commission would be introduced in the National Assembly. The NDC will be headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and will also include provincial chief ministers and key regulatory bodies such as NADRA and PTA.

Minister Shaza Fatima added that a Pakistan Digital Authority had been announced that would also develop a national digital framework on the economy, governance, and societal transformation. Spectrum auction for 5G and 4G is expected in April next year as a step towards increasing internet connectivity to resolve slow speeds mainly affecting freelancers and IT individuals within the country.
Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani said that public-private partnerships will be critical to digital progress. There is a need to narrow the digital divide and facilitate the attainment of high-quality broadband access to the people, particularly in schools and rural areas.
In short; these initiatives would help Pakistan to unlock its potential as a country in a modern technology-driven world, thus helping the nation to develop in its economies and society.
