Pakistan Navy Commissions Offshore Patrol Vessel PNS Yamama

With the commissioning of its Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), PNS Yamama, at Constanta Port in Romania, the Pakistan Navy has formally commissioned the said ship. A Commander of the Commanding Officer PNS Yamama, Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, took center stage at the ceremony as chief guest and handed the traditional Command Scroll to him. The event was also witnessed by the Deputy Fleet Commander of the Romanian Navy, Rear Admiral (UH) Marian Ciobotaru, and the Ambassador of Pakistan to Romania, Mr. Arshad Jaan Pathan.

In his address as Chief Guest, he talked about the significance of this project and how besides that, PNS Yamama has other capabilities for the operations of the Pakistan Navy. He also said that these platforms are designed for the full spectrum of Navy operations at sea.

Earlier this year, the Pakistan Navy inducted on 6 September 2024, the first of OPV Batch II into the fleet. Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi hailed the professionalism and dedication of Damen Shipyards, saying he was confident that cooperation with the Pakistan Navy would continue with advanced technologies.

PNS Yamama is the latest vessel of OPV Batch II, built at Damen Shipyards in Galati, Romania. A versatile, agile platform of intermediate size and tonnage, it is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for electronic warfare, anti-ship, and anti-air warfare capabilities. It can also emplace a multi-role helicopter and operate in autonomous or task force configuration for long deployments to defend Pakistan’s maritime interests.

Pakistanis, Romanians, and Dutch dignitaries had their presence in the ceremony as well as members from the Pakistani community.
