A consumer court in Karachi ordered three Pakistan Post officials to pay Rs. 90,000 each to an individual for tampering with his parcel that originally contained 10 kilograms of dried fruits but was instead filled with dust and garbage.
Muhammad Waseem, Muhammad Abdullah, and Muhammad Arshad were directed by Judge Saifullah Phulpoto of the Consumer Protection Court (South) to pay a total of Rs. 75,000 to the complainant, Muhammad Arshad, for “defective services” and a further Rs. 15,000 towards litigation costs.
Also, the court fined each of the employees Rs 5,000 payable to the provincial government. According to the complainant, he had booked a consignment for his daughter’s engagement ceremony in December 2020.

When he went to pick it up from Karachi Cantt, the dry fruits were found missing and debris was found in its place. Although a departmental inquiry has made the employees responsible, the compensation is just Rs. 1,000. Displeased, Arshad went for legal proceedings demanding more compensation.
Judge Phulpoto stated in his ruling that the employees would have to be blamed for their negligence on the grounds of having failed to meet their legal duty to deliver the consignment in an uninfringed condition. He granted damages for financial loss as well as mental distress but pointed out that there was not enough evidence to support the claims of reputational harm.
