Pakistan Unveils Rasoob 250 Cruise Missile at IDEAS 2024

Global Industrial Defence Solutions (GIDS) demonstrated the new air-launched cruise missile, Rasoob 250, at IDEAS 2024. Rasoob 250, Pakistan’s third ALCM, follows in the footsteps of Ra’ad-I/II and Taimoor, respectively. The Rasoob 250 was most probably designed by the Air Weapons Complex (AWC) of NESCOM using prior missile technologies.

Low observability characterizes the Rasoob 250, which has an airframe more angular and diminutive in size than the previous systems. Thus, its radar cross-section (RCS) is reduced, making it stealthier than any of its predecessors. The weight of 285 kg (with the booster) and range of 350 km are more or less identical to those of Turkish Roketsan Çakır, which weighs 275 kg.

Unlike the Ra’ad and Taimoor missiles which are fired from high-speed jets, the Rasoob 250 is intended to be launched from much slower, lighter platforms such as Shahpar-III UAV, Sea King helicopters, and the RAS-72 Sea Eagle.

The missile houses a 75-kg semi-armour piercing warhead and is therefore designed with an accuracy of under 5 meters. This will focus the use of munitions on precision rather than explosive yield and will lessen the need for large warheads. This is part of a wide-sweep trend favoring smaller, more precise munitions in missile development in Pakistan.
