Rising hockey stars from Pakistan, Sufiyan Khan and Hamza Fayaz, played meaningful roles in steering the country into a precarious victory 7-2, defeating China during Wednesday’s Junior Hockey Asia Cup 2024. Their double penalties helped Pakistan to achieve what would be their beautiful win in this very important match.
The start of the match was somewhat slow since no one could score in the first quarter. Then, in the second period, two minutes into the quarter, with a fine strike from the field, Hamza Fayaz broke the deadlock just as Pakistan doubled the score by converting a penalty corner off Sufiyan Khan, making it 2-0. The Green Shirts continued to threaten, and Hamza netted another three-nil in favor of Pakistan.

China managed to reduce the margin by scoring when Di Yanwei hit their third goal to make it 3-1. In response, Muhammad Ammad was able to add a fourth for Pakistan in the penultimate quarter and left the score at 4-1 in their favor. To finish the match, this was continued with a goal from Rana Waleed, Sufiyan Khan, and Muhammad Mughira in the final quarter, putting the team in control at 7-1 in the 51st minute.
While China got consolation for a late goal through Yubo Wang, it wouldn’t be enough to form a serious comeback, ending the match in 7-2.
Pakistan was scheduled to battle Bangladesh in their second match of the Junior Hockey Asia Cup 2024 today, while China takes on Oman in their next fixture.
