In the first five months of 2024-25, rice exports from Pakistan significantly rose by 35.40% compared to the same period last year, as revealed by data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Between July and November 2024, Pakistan exported more than 2.377 million metric tonnes of basmati and other types of rice, amounting to $ 1.515 billion. A dramatic rise compared to 1.721 metric tons valued at $ 1.119 billion in exports during the same period last year.

The export of basmati rice alone recorded an increase of 34.64% from 244,664 metric tons that were worth $ 286.778 million last year to 370,282 metric tonnes costing $ 386.116 million. Non-basmati rice also exported 2.006 million metric tons, generating revenues of $ 1.129 billion. This is positive compared to that of last year when 1.476 million metric tons were exported at a value of $ 832.523 – and since that metric tons was lower than realized this year.
The increase in rice exports testifies to Pakistan’s improving visibility in international markets, as well as its excellent performance in agriculture for this current fiscal year.
