PEC Implements Reforms and Introduces E-Voting System

To implement institutional reforms and institute an e-voting system, the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has organized a working group, the “Working Group on PEC Institutional Reforms (WG-PECIR).” Leading this initiative is Lieutenant General Kashif Nazir, Chief of Army Engineers and a PEC Governing Body member, who aims to modernize PEC operations and address governance challenges.

E-voting is the major area of focus in the group, and it is expected to encourage and enhance acceptance and efficiency in PEC elections by replacing traditional with digital voting methods. Other areas include digitalization, identification of gaps in the PEC rules of business, and reviewing and aligning governance structures to reflect present standards.

The working group wants to expand its interest in major institutional issues relative to accountability in engineering practice, as well as possible structural interventions. It will look into the organizational architecture of PEC to maximize use of resources and clarify roles and responsibilities. The group will also instill its core values of collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence within all operations of PEC.

The group includes senior PEC members, with Engineer Akhtar Abbas Bharwana as co-chair and Engineers Khalid Mehmood, Muhammad Zeeshan, Najam Waheed, and retired Lieutenant Engineer Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi as members. Registrar Naseer Khan and Additional Registrar Muhammad Sohail Khan are also included in the group, ensuring representation from various administrative and professional domains.

They are supposed to take into consideration all the problems, then think of the suggestions to be made to PEC’s chairman and governing body. It is about setting a new standard for governance in Pakistan’s engineering sector as it can improve structural, regulatory, and transparency practices within the PEC’s operations.
