Pakistan International Airlines, PIA has issued a notice with plans to expand domestic and international operations by launching new flights in January. The uses of the Boeing 777 and Airbus 320 will complement the airline’s services. The airline will begin weekly operations on routes, Sialkot to Bahrain-two flights a week from January 20, Lahore-to-Kuwait one flight starting from January 25, Lahore-to-Dammam-twice a week commencing from January 22, along with Faisalabad-to-Jeddah with one weekly flight starting on January 20, Peshawar-to-Karachi commencing from January 25 and one weekly flight from Sialkot to Doha starting January 21 and much more.

In another major operational development, the acting CEO of PIA, Khurram Mushtaq announced the plan to reactivate numerous sidelined planes in 2025. He stated that out of these 34 aircraft in the fleet, only 16 were operational by his time of assumption. He added that within three weeks, three aircraft including a Boeing 777, an Airbus 320, and an ATR were returned to the active fleet thus increasing the number to 19.
Mid-2025, PIA is expected to reactivate some more Boeing 777 and Airbus aircraft bringing the active fleet to 24 and for operations using the Boeing 777 for flights to European destinations. The ultimate aim is to operationalize all 34 by year-end to give a major boost to revenue. Furthermore, a 25%-salary hike has also been announced by the airline to its employees as part of the expansion. Last year, PIA added two aircraft as part of its fleet expansion.
