Therefore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight (D-8) countries, in Cairo. Both leaders underlined their commitment to strengthening Pak-Iran fraternal relations in areas of shared interests, particularly trade, economy, energy, security, and regional connectivity.

The two leaders expressed hope that decisions taken in the forum would present new avenues for cooperation among the D-8 member states. Observing, Prime Minister Shehbaz pointed to the vast scope of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and suggested both identify new areas of cooperation through the ongoing institutional mechanisms. He further proposed operationalizing border markets to uplift the border regions and hasten the opening of the remaining markets.
Both leaders expressed serious concern about the genocide of innocent Palestinians committed by Zionists and agreed to continue their voices for oppressed Palestinians. PM Shehbaz repeated the solidarity of Pakistan with Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.
PM Shehbaz saluted the Supreme Leader of Iran and congratulated Iran on its acquiring full membership of the BRICS, requesting support for the induction of Pakistan into it. He also invited President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan.
