Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for swift action against those involved in the recent riots in Islamabad and warned that anyone trying to destabilize the economy of the country would have to face strict measures. The high-ranking security meeting included senior officials like the Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. According to him, no innocent civilians should be strangled in this operation.
“We will not permit anybody to create havoc and sabotage our rapidly stabilizing economy,” stated Sharif. He ordered immediate action against the guilty persons for violating law and order by inciting violence, vandalism, and public and private property damages in Islamabad. The effort will be accelerated to establish and compile concrete evidence against the offenders through a task force addressing the interest unrest.

Sharif told innocent rioters should not be locked up. He instructed all the necessary resources to be committed to the task force investigating and acting against those behind the disturbances. Besides, he directed the Ministry of Law to integrate the Federal Prosecution Service under its purview and ordered the speed-up of the construction of Islamabad’s new jail with the immediate release of funds to hasten the process.
The meeting provided updates about the continuing installation of the Safe City initiative, which essentially increased the coverage of surveillance cameras in the capital. Authorities informed Sharif that the new Islamabad jail is expected to be completed by March next year.
