His Holiness Pope Francis opened up for the exceedingly awaited 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope at the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, announced the official Vatican News agency Tuesday evening.
The Jubilee, a momentous event held every 25 years, will be brought to a conclusion when that very Holy Door closes on Jan.6, 2026, the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.

The custom dates back to Pope Martin V, who opened a Holy Door to enter the Lateran Basilica in Rome as part of the Extraordinary Jubilee of 1423.
St. Peter’s Basilica adopted it as a standard for the Jubilee of 1450.
