Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has written to the Interior Ministry for an extension to virtual private networks (VPN) Registration after 30 November 2024. The PTA stated that some stakeholders have reported finding the registration process complicated.
As for this time of inactivity, all private, unregistered, and illegal VPNs are now directed by the Ministry of Interior to enforce compliance. They include PTA approaches to improving the registration process and addressing concerns raised by interested parties; currently, the PTA is actively dealing with stakeholders.

Some noted recently by the Interior Division that VPNs are frequently regarded among the channels for terrorists communicating with one another while accessing prohibited material. Being high, Pakistan has landed topmost count of countries in visiting those sites used through a VPN, hence calls for such measures.
Now, to register, the user’s government should hear another post extension of the deadline for an additional two weeks before they resort to issuing blockage notices against defaulters.
