Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to provide data on fraudulent refund claimants with whom FIRs have been registered.
In a letter to the FBR Chairman, the PTBA underlined transparency in light of the large amounts of fraudulent refunds and the many FIRs lodged against those who perpetrate fraud. It then went on to urge the FBR to furnish and publish data on these cases, including the evaded tax amounts and apprehension of the culprits.

The PTBA added that higher tax deduction rates were specified as an exception for non-filers under various provisions of the Income Tax Ordinance, hence legitimizing the category of non-filers. PTBA has advised that, based on all information collected through different auditing or withholding tax monitoring processes, such information about non-filers converted into filers must be shared with the concerned by the FBR.
The PTBA also called on FBR to make public data on the working of the point of sale (POS) system designed to cover a supply chain and enhance revenues through real-time invoicing. How many POS have been installed to date in Pakistan, they asked, and what has been the effect on revenue?
