PTI Negotiation Team to Update Imran Khan on Government Talks

Date:26 Dec 2024 Today (Thursday), a meeting will be held at Adiala Jail to update the detained founder of PTI, Imran Khan, and its negotiation team regarding the progress of the initial talks between the government and PTI. The authorities have permitted the meeting to take place at 2 PM, as revealed by sources.

The PTI delegation would then update Imran Khan on the outcome of the first round of talks that were held last Monday while seeking his guidance in formulating the strategy that the party should take forward.

This is after Senator Irfan Siddiqui confirmed that on Tuesday the government pretty much agreed to the request made by the PTI for consultations with Khan. The long-awaited dialogue between the government and the PTI began at the start of this week in Islamabad.

The first session had representatives from both sides: on the government panel were Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, PM’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Senator Irfan Siddiqui, PPP leaders Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Naveed Qamar, along with MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar. Meanwhile, the PTI delegation had former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.

The second round of meetings will occur on January 2, when the PTI plans to present its demands in writing. Among PTI’s most salient demands is the provision for the release of the political detainees, including Khan, and the setting up of a judicial mechanism for ian nvestigation into the May 9 riots and the incident that took place on November 26.

Tensions rose last month after the jailed former prime minister encouraged his supporters to start a civil disobedience movement, which he said should begin with the withholding of remittances.
