The Punjab government removes restrictions on business hours for shops, shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants in Lahore and Multan. The decision takes immediate effect after improving the Air Quality Index, as stated in a notification issued by Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of Environment.
Under the Punjab Environment Protection Act 1997, this is a free flow of businesses because most businesses have no time limitations to operate. The relevant departments have been intimated regarding the new policy.

Hotels, restaurants, eateries, and all food points were previously allowed to remain open until 10 in the evening, extending only recently from the earlier closing hour of 8 PM. Home delivery and takeaway have been exempt from timing limitations right from the beginning.
The most smog-affected cities in the province, Lahore and Multan, fall under the influence of the Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab. Currently, there have been improvements in the air quality situation. However, that still remains above hazardous levels.
