Russia Attacks Ukraine’s Energy System on Christmas Day

This is the account of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, that Russia attacked an energy facility in Ukraine on Christmas Day with over 70 missiles and 100 drones. This attack has injured six people in Kharkiv and killed one person in the Dnipropetrovsk region. This assault has caused massive power outages, depriving about half a million residents of Kharkiv from heating during these freezing months.

President Zelensky termed the attack as “inhumane” since it was strategically decided to target Ukraine on Christmas. The Defence Ministry of Russia confirmed the strikes yet mentioning it targeted critical energy facilities that support the military and industrial complex of Ukraine and achieved their designated goals of it.

Ukrainian air forces claimed that their air defenses brought down 59 Russian missiles and 54 drones overnight and on Wednesday morning. Numerous assaults were going on as Ukrainians celebrated the second Christmas of their new calendar, which was part of the steps made to distance themselves from Russian influences.

The photo depicts the typical attack of ballistic missiles at Kharkiv and the damage to civilian infrastructure. In Dnipropetrovsk, it has hit the facilities of regional power as well, resulting in casualties. The Ukrainian Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, said that an electricity supply restriction is applied due to the big attack.

This may be the last of such reports as DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, mentions that it’s been affected quite significantly by the damage to its generating facilities during the 13th massive attack of this year on the energy sector. DTEK’s chief executive Maxim Timchenko made a plea to the allies to pump into the air defense ammunition to defend the essential energy infrastructure.

According to US Ambassador Bridget Brink, the atrocity has entirely disturbed Ukrainian families and has disrupted essential services. This incident presents yet another example of Russia “weaponizing winter” during the ongoing war against Ukraine.
