The inspection ship, the Ursa Major, controlled by Oboronlogistika, had been carrying two large cranes on board from the Soviet Union to Vladivostok. Investigations continue to discover the cause of the explosion, according to Spanish authorities.

US sanctions attached this particular ship with those of the Russian military. Built in 2009 it has been reported according to Ursa Major. According to media reports, the sinking has raised questions about safety on board and what possible threat will it have to the environment around that area.
