On January 2, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will hold an in-camera session between negotiating teams from federal governments and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI party. This notification was put out by the NA secretariat on Monday. This is the second sit-down for these negotiating parties to discuss the stipulations set forth by the PTI regarding the release of jailed party workers and the formation of a judicial commission to investigate events of 9th May 2023 and 26th November.

Sadiq shall preside over meeting calls at 11:30 a.m. at Parliament House, reads the notification. The date of 2nd January was previously announced during such time when on December 26, the Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Sahibzada Hamid Raza ended when PTI formally gave the government time until January 31 for the ongoing negotiations. Raza stated, “Cut-off date for the negotiation is January 31. On January 2, when our committee meets the government to continue the negotiations, Omar Ayub will formally give them this deadline.”
The relations between the government and the establishment have turned very sour against the PTI after the imprisonment of its founder, Imran Khan, last year for several cases. A few of these protests organized by the PTI during the previous year took violent forms after being handled harshly by the state. Following the self-declared death of his supporters as a result of PTI’s power show, the tensions escalated and calls to ban the party were heard. However, he formed a committee for talks, and his lawmakers softened their stance. Upon the basis of a recommendation made by NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also established a committee, and the parties began talking to resolve differences.
