Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter, seemed to hint at his impending retirement, claiming that his glittering playing career may soon come to an end.
At a media interaction prior to the Champions T20 Cup on Friday, Sarfaraz made a touching remark that “there is nothing else to say” with regard to his career when asked about a future in the national fold. He stated, “As far as me and my career are concerned, I think I don’t need to say anything. Nothing is left. I know what you are waiting for, so it will happen soon.”

Sarfaraz received a debut cap from Pakistan at international level in the year 2007. He has since gone on to play 54 Test matches, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is while accumulating a mammoth aggregate of 6,164 runs. The cricketer has achieved six centuries and 32 half-centuries, with his most prestigious achievement being the captaincy under which Pakistan earned the country a first-ever title in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy in 2017. Under Sarfaraz’s captaincy, Pakistan etched out the record for 11 consecutive victories in the T20I series.
Of late, Sarfaraz’s appearances for the national team tend to wane. The last Test was in 2023 and he was dropped after scoring only 7 runs. The latest white-ball match was in November 2021 after which he did not feature in the national team.
Now, Sarfaraz would, however, be mentoring the side under Faheem Ashraf at the Champions T20 Cup. He would be seen continuing his activities in the game. However, it now seems that his time for the country may be nearing its end.
