Two senior judges of the Supreme Court have requested a full court bench for the hearing of the 26th Constitutional Amendment case, urging prompt scheduling.
26th Constitutional Amendment
In Islamabad, two senior judges of the Supreme Court have taken a significant step by writing to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, seeking a full court bench for the hearing on the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar addressed their letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, highlighting the importance of scheduling the case for a full court hearing within the week.
The judges emphasized that during a committee meeting held on October 31, a decision was reached to present the 26th Amendment case before the full court, with the hearing initially scheduled for November 4. Despite this decision, a cause list was not issued.
Previously, the two senior judges had requested the Chief Justice to convene a committee meeting on October 31. As the Chief Justice did not call a meeting, the judges convened one themselves under Section 2. Consequently, it was decided that the full court would hear the case against the 26th Amendment on November 4.

Furthermore, the letter from the judges urged that petitions against the 26th Amendment be presented before the full court this week. They also directed the registrar to publish the minutes of the October 31 meeting on the website.
The 26th Amendment has sparked significant interest, leading to a call for comprehensive judicial review. On September 20, the Supreme Court (Amendment) Practice and Procedure Ordinance 2024 was enacted following the signature of President Asif Zardari.
Conclusion:
The push for a full court bench to hear the 26th Amendment case underscores its critical importance. With the judiciary taking proactive steps, the nation awaits a thorough examination of this significant constitutional matter.
