Zimbabwe’s most experienced all-rounder, Sean Williams, was penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for disrespecting an umpire’s decision during the second ODI against Pakistan, held on Wednesday.
Williams was charged with showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match as per Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Hence, he received one demerit point for his disciplinary record. This is his first offense in the last 24 months.

The incident occurred during the 26th over of Zimbabwe’s innings when Williams pointed to his bat after being given out leg before wicket off the bowling of Saim Ayub. Williams, who admitted committing the offense, accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft, with no formal hearing required as he was a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
Level 1 breaches can lead to penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points. Williams is now looking to learn the ropes from the Zimbabwe side as it aims for its first bilateral series win against Pakistan in the final match today.
