South Africa Announces T20I Squad for Pakistan

With regard to the announcement regarding the national squad for the upcoming three-match T20I South Africa Vs Pakistan series in December, the head coach of white-ball teams for South Africa, Rob Walter, has announced a 15-member squad for the said series.

T20I senior captain Aiden Markram is currently busy in an ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. With that, wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen will acquire the leadership of the Proteas. Markram, along with all-format players Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Tristan Stubbs, will miss the series because of its tight schedule over the different formats.

For the ODIs, these players would return as South Africa gears up for the ICC champions trophy, which will be hosted in 2025, in preparation against Pakistan.

Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi return to the T20I outfit after a long gap of several months, having featured previously at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier in the year. George Linde, the allrounder of Western Province, is also back in the T20I setup, having played his last game in July 2021.

Based on Linde’s domestic performance in the CSA T20 Challenge, where he made 171 runs off 96 balls with a strike rate of 178.12 and took 9 wickets at an average rate of 18.33, he earned admission into the squad.

The squad will participate in a two-day preparatory camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 6–8 December before heading to Durban for the series opener at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on 10 December.

Matches will continue at SuperSport Park, Centurion, and DP World Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on 13 and 14 December, respectively.
