The first impeachment review hearing regarding the disposed President Yoon Suk Yeol will be held by the Constitutional Court of South Korea on December 27. The judges met on Monday to review the successful impeachment motion passed by parliament and to decide on the date for a preliminary hearing.
At 63, Yoon was automatically suspended by the National Assembly on Saturday after the passage of the motion, barring him from performing his duty because of his temporary declaration of martial law during the night of December 3. The country’s running now is under the can of acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

Of the total nine members sitting at the apex court, six must back the impeachment motion for successfully removing Yoon from office, while the court is expected to decide within 180 days on the motion. The court will decide against impeachment, therefore, powers might be restored to Yoon.
Such hearings are mostly attended in person by the disgraced prosecutor-turned-politician. Yoon was charged with treason, insurrection, and several other crimes and is expected to be summoned this Wednesday by a joint investigation. He denied attending the questioning by prosecutors this Sunday.
Headed by the police, the CIO, and the Ministry of Defense’s investigation unit, this joint team conducts investigations. Earlier today, ruling People Power Party chair Han Dong-hoon stepped down from his party position, apologizing to the people while chanting that Yoon self-coups.
