The Sensitive Price Index or SPI-based inflation for the last week ended on November 28, 2024, indicated a slight decline of 0.03 percent. This is due to the reduced prices of some items, such as chicken, which fell by 3.78 percent; tomatoes, by 2.23 percent; pulse gram, by 1.60 percent; pulse masoor, by 1.38 percent; and rice basmati broken, by 1.15 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The year-on-year inflation figures rose by 5.13 percent, and a few significantly rising rates included 75.09 percent for women’s sandals, 66.40 percent for pulse gram, 42.08 percent for tomatoes, and 25.74 percent for powdered milk. On the other hand, massive declines were observed in wheat flour at 35.17%, chilies powder at 20.00%, diesel at 13.92%, and petrol at 11.64%.

During this week, of 51 items, prices of 12 items increased, 9 items decreased, and 30 items remained stable. The SPI during the week stood at 324 points, unchanged almost from last week’s 324.11 points.
For each consumption group, the SPI has given a varied picture-increased by 0.06 percent for the group spending an amount of up to Rs. 17,732, increased by 0.02 percent for the expenditure group of Rs. 17,732 Rs. 22,888. It was the same for those spending Rs. 22,889-Rs. 29,517, but was lower by 0.02 percent and 0.06 percent for the groups spending Rs. 29,518-Rs. 44,175 and above Rs. 44,175, respectively.
