The Election Commission of Pakistan has disqualified Adil Bazai, and this case has been represented at the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic, which has then ruled in favor of the independent candidate as Huna with the Sunni Ittehad Council. After Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah ruled in Bazai’s favor, a bench comprising a single judge said, “We find from the facts of the case that his independent candidate had received a significant legal advantage.”
Justice Shah quizzed the ECP’s authority and decision-making process, while Justice Ayesha Malik criticized the commission for selective handling of affidavits: “It’s high time that they should initiate proper inquiry, rather than carrying out selective proceedings.”

The case originated from a reference filed by none other than Sharif, the President of PML-N, who alleged that Bazai had violated constitutional provisions by switching loyalties after submitting an affidavit of joining the party. However, according to Bazai, this was a fake affidavit; he did not join the party at all.
PML-N argued that Bazai’s conduct amounted to floor crossing to which the ECP disqualified him. The Supreme Court, however, knocked down the decision and reestablished his MNA status while asking questions about the integrity of the process used by the ECP and its authority.
