The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court is set today, speaking on Wednesday, that the Constitution does not allow tapping the phone by anybody. The hearing of a case about phone tapping was held before the seven-member bench led by Justice Aminuddin Khan.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar had inquired at the prospect of any law pertaining to phone taps. The additional attorney general (AAG) confirmed that there is such a law on the subject. The Constitution for some time, indeed since 2013, has a procedure about tapping telephones whereby both the ISI and IB have permission to tap.

However, Justice Mazhar clarified that this permission may only be given by a sitting judge, and asked if any judge had been informed of such a case. The AAG admitted before the court that he did not know of any judge having been nominated so far for phone-tapping cases.
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail noted that the legal paradigm surrounding phone tapping was rather blurry, while Justice Mazhar asserted that the law restricts even proficient personnel from indulging in phone tapping:
After acknowledging these remarks, the bench adjourned the hearing and issued notice to advocate generals.
