Taiwanese military officials established confirmation on Monday for the very first arrival of Abrams tanks manufactured in the US. The very first batch of 38 was M1A2T tanks and a variant of the M1 Abrams. It arrived at the Port of Taipei, New Taipei’s Bali district on Sunday, and the delivery commenced to the Taiwanese military on the following day earlier today.

They have been imported by Taiwan to a total of 108 tanks and associated facilities from the USA in a deal approved in 2019 and due to be completed within the period of delivery until 2026. Taiwan last imported from the United States six lots of tanks back in 1994. They also have assigned M1A2Ts, which feature 120-millimeter smoothbore guns, to the military at the Army Armor Training Command training center in Hsinchu.
“Heavey Armors Have Arrived! Welcome to join us!” the ministry announced on X, sharing pictures of the tanks.
In response to this delivery, Lin Jian, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said: “There is no such a thing as the so-called ‘Defense Ministry’ in Taiwan.” He underlined the fact that China stands opposed to military ties of any sort between the US and Taiwan and urged Washington to adhere to the one-China principle.
