Tejashwi Yadav, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader, has clearly lent his support to the idea of the Indian cricket team going to Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The politician, having served as Chief Minister, also has enough political experience to argue that sports should have a cooling effect from politics.
In an unpretentious chat with reporters, Yadav said, “Involving politics in sports is never a good approach. Don’t all countries take part in the Olympics? So, why should India refuse to go to Pakistan? What is the objection? If the Prime Minister [Modi] can visit for a meal, why is it a problem if the Indian cricket team travels there?”
Yadav’s opinion is shared by many Pakistanis, including aber cricketers, who are of the opinion that politics should not impede sporting decisions. The BCCI grants no permission for India’s men’s cricket team to go and play at the Champions Trophy due to ‘security issues’.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is adamant that the event should only be held in Pakistan in 2025, a sticking point in the entire matter at the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Things are hot for a ruling from the ICC, and one is expected soon. Given his cricket exposure, Yadav’s take makes this debate interesting as the hovering of a weighty pronouncement from the ICC draws closer.
