On Monday morning, thousands of Palestinians began returning to northern Gaza as part of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that was put into effect on January 19 to enable the return of people back to their homes.
Witnesses and an Anadolu correspondent on the ground watched as, by 7 am local time, thousands were walking toward northern Gaza through Al-Rashid coastal street with celebration and chants of joy filling social media pictures and videos.

It was previously declared by Gaza’s media office that foot traffic to the northern area should start via a coastal street from 7 am onwards and that vehicles should be used for transportation to the northern area from central and southern Gaza, along with Salaheddin Street of eastern Gaza, through 9 am.
Activists in Palestinian social media contributed videos celebrating the entry that expressed the emotions of people coming back to their homes. The return of these people became a trigger-point moment in the ceasefire, which now shows how the human side of this agreement weighs heavily.
