Tragic Drowning Incident at Al Mamzar Beach

The teenage Indian expat who drowned at Al Mamzar beach was swept away by strong waves while enjoying a day with his family.

Tragedy At Al Mamzar TE Beach

A 15-year-old Indian expat has drowned after being swept away by strong currents at the Al Mamzar beach. The boy attended an Indian school in Dubai and was out with his parents and siblings for a family outing on Friday evening when the unfortunate event took place.

Incident Description

As reported by social workers who are familiar with the event, the boy, along with his elder sister, was caught up in the trying waters. “Everyone was screaming for help when a Syrian bystander who was a good swimmer jumped in to help,” said Ibrahim Berike, a social worker and also a volunteer with Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre. The brave swimmer was able to save the sister, but the boy was swept off beyond safety. Later, his body was found.

Professional Opinion of the Family

Berike also stated that the parents were seated on the beach watching their children when the incident took place. “The two kids were both capable of swimming and they were just having a light swim relative to what they were used to before they started being drawn in,” said the source. “The mother said that the boy only went in for a second and she had no physical trace of him after. Even now, she doesn’t get what transpired. It was surely a very strong undercurrent.”

Public Response

The family, who hails from Kerala in South India has been living in the UAE for quite some time. “He was the third among four siblings and a loving boy,” the relative who requested anonymity explained. “He was always polite and courteous when we would have family functions and he would attend. We hope their family has the courage and patience to get through this sad and tragic loss.”

The boy will be buried in Dubai after the needed paperwork and other formalities are completed, the relative said.

Closing

This unfortunate incident proves how perilous strong currents can be, even to those who are adept at swimming. A young life has been lost, and the community stands with the bereaved family.
