Ashgabat has recently hosted a Turkmen-US business forum to look into possibilities for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries. The delegation of business leaders from the United States was headed by Eric Stewart, Executive Director of the Turkmen-American Business Council.
During the event, the representatives of the two countries expressed pride and friendship in their joint commitment to nurturing cooperation in the future and reaffirmed the continuation of bilateral relations based on reciprocity and mutual benefit. Part of the commitment from the US tied to economic diversification and adoption of advanced technologies was the willingness to assist US firms in setting up and expanding operations in the Turkmen market. Further, Turkmenistan has been said to offer favorable conditions for investments, particularly organizational and legal frameworks for facilitating business activities.

The US delegation stressed the strong interest among leading US companies in the Turkmen market, ready to lend their support to programs that set strategic goals toward regional development. They include in their successes companies like General Electric, Boeing, John Deere, and Case that currently operate key areas of the economy in Turkmenistan.
Among these subjects were priority areas for collaboration such as agriculture, industry, and water resources in addition to supplying advanced equipment to help increase productivity and joint projects to enhance the energy infrastructure.
The forum also discussed, among other issues, connectivity and infrastructure development toward sustainable solutions and technological advancement. Of particular mention was the emphasis placed on the Turkmen-U.S. Business Council as it stands – an important venue by which partnerships may be established between public and private sectors between the two countries.
