Turkmenistan and Turkiye intend to significantly increase their trade relations in the future, with a target of doubling their trade turnover from $2.5 billion to $5 billion. This was announced by Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat during an exhibition in Ashgabat showing more than 70 Turkish companies.
Bolat emphasized that the volume of trade presently does not suffice, and the economic relationship by reaching the target of $5 billion would be strengthened a lot between the two countries. A major step towards the landmark would be 8the th meeting of the intergovernmental commission, set for February or March next year in Ankara. The meeting is expected to advance to the approval of a new roadmap framework of trade and economic cooperation, corresponding to the vision of leaders of both nations.

“We will develop our cooperation in various fields reflecting the deep cultural and historical ties between our brotherly countries,” Bolat said.
The partnership will focus on several key sectors, including facilitating the transport of Turkmen natural gas to Europe, possibly leading to strategically important agreements. Also, there are expectations on customs procedures and visa regime simplification that will ease the movement of people in business activities for nationals both ways.
Bolat added that Turkish construction works in Turkmenistan and the Middle Corridor would promote trade through piecemeal improvements in the sphere of transportation.
Turkiye and Turkmenistan already share sizeable economic relations, with Turkiye being one of the leading trade partners of Turkmenistan, currently hosting over 600 Turkish companies in various sectors, spanning trade and investment to energy, construction, textiles, and transportation. The increased strategic partnership, forged in history, culture, and language, indeed attests to the mutual relativity, interest, and trust between the two countries.
