UAE has rolled over for Pakistan a $2 billion dollar loan, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on January 7, 2025. With this rollover, Pakistan receives much-needed fiscal relief because, originally, the date of loan repayment this month was anticipated.

Sharing with the media details of his recent cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz said that he discussed with the President of UAE Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Rahim Yar Khan. He was talking about postponing loan repayment intervals in view of the UAE’s commitments to supporting the much-needed economic stability of Pakistan and strengthening bilateral relations.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ongoing efforts in stabilizing the national economy and expressed gratitude towards the UAE. Future meetings were also mentioned to consider bringing about reductions in electricity tariffs and stimulating further export-led growth.
