UAE Sets 2 New World Records on New Year

Ras Al Khaimah kicked start the excitement of the new year, 2025, with a fireworks display and drone show that entered the books of two Guinness World Records. The Emirate got the titles, of the largest aerial display of a tree formed by drones and the largest aerial image of a seashell formed by drones. Titled “Our Story in the Sky,” the event marked the cultural and natural heritage of Ras Al Khaimah and redefined New Year celebrations with a great, innovative show.

The spectacle against record was made possible with 1,400 drones, synchronized fireworks, and lasers, all creating mesmerizing visuals. The first world record was established through a display of seashells made up of 982 elements and the other presented an inspiring formation of trees using 1,400 drones.

Emma Brain, the official adjudicator at Guinness World Records, explained that the process of verification required adherence to severe criteria set for each record attempt. The benchmarks for this year were 750 drones for a seashell and 1,200 drones for a tree.

Raki Phillips, chief executive officer of the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, felt all pride in securing the two Guinness World Records, but he called the happenstance a reflection of the emirate’s inventive spirit and cultural pride. “As we welcome 2025, we look forward to creating even more unforgettable experiences for our visitors and residents,” he said.

They show journeyed for five kilometers across the waterfront of Ras Al Khaimah, divided into three thematic acts:

  1. In Shifting Sands, an image of the growing ecosystem of the Emirate is painted, along with the linkages it has with the earth.
  2. Mysteries of the Sea, an exhibit that celebrates traditions of the sea and underwater imagery was about pearl-diving heritage.
  3. Guiding Starlight is celestial imagery honoring the seafarer history of Ras Al Khaimah and a grand culmination of falling stars and pyrotechnics.

More than 100,000 residents and visitors came from beachfront resorts and the Ras Al Khaimah New Year 2025 Festival to celebrate this event. It was a festival featuring free entry and spaces that could be made for families and individual people, guaranteeing everyone would have an inclusive and memorable celebration.
