Car washing at home and commercial facilities has been prohibited by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in order to curb water wastage with penalties on offenders.

Also, WASA Deputy Managing Director Zeeshan Shaukat Gondal has assured that violators will pay fines. A fine of Rs.10 000 will be levied on domestic users and Rs. 20 000 on commercial users on first offenses where committed. On the second offense, the water supply will be cut off.

This comes in light of the Directive of the Lahore High Court. According to a WASA spokesperson, the organization has devised a plan to save water from wastage. The officials went further to say that water is a core and basic need for humankind; hence, its preservation is very important.
Mr. Gondal pointed out the threat of water scarcity faced by the world today as a result of severe climate change and other dynamics. He also said that Rawalpindi is facing a critical water shortage because of overexploitation and depletion of groundwater sources. WASA is striving to balance the water supply in Rawalpindi. The deputy managing director appealed to the public to refrain from any water wastage and act according to the orders of the Lahore High Court.
For effective implementation, the stake of the citizen’s role is significant. It is, therefore, critical that members of the public comply with the enforced provisions for the resolution of the water crisis and in the interest of saving water.
