WhatsApp has introduced a feature that lets you convert voice notes into text. This allows users to engage in conversations even in a loud place or while walking. The transcription is done completely on the device so that there is no need to worry about any third party or even WhatsApp, having access to the message content. At first, Android users will get transcription access to English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. iOS 16 users are provided with a transcription for French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, Chinese, and Arabic languages. Besides iOS 17 later will also add transcriptions for Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai.

However, Urdu is still under development; hence, voice notes sent in that language will remain as audio. Meta has not given any time frame as to when support for Urdu or Hindi would be introduced. To turn on the functionality, go to Settings, then Chats, and look for the transcription feature. To transcribe a certain message, long press on it and then touch transcribe. Meta claims that over the coming weeks, the feature will be available globally. So users should exercise restraint in case they do not possess the feature yet. More languages are believed to be included in the future.
Final Verdict: The voice note transcription feature provides additional ease to users of WhatsApp as they are able to now read the voice notes. This upgrade protects users’ privacy and is multi-lingual, with many more to come.
