The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) calls for stopping the attacks on hospitals in the Gaza Strip by Israel. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on X: “Hospitals in Gaza have again become battlefields and the health system is under serious threat.” He stated that Kamal Adwan Hospital, located in northern Gaza, is “out of order”; however, its director Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya has been missing since he was detained two days ago. Patients needing critical care transfer to the Indonesian Hospital, which isn’t operating either. Some of the patients have had to wait during the transfer. Tedros appealed to Israel to ensure that the health and rights of the patients are taken care of. Al-Ahli Hospital and Al-Wafa Rehabilitation Hospital in Gaza City, too suffered attacks and were damaged.

Forcing the civilian population to leave their shelters, Israeli forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia on Friday, cutting sections into flames. Ever since Hamas’s cross-border attack on 7 October 2023, on Israel, over 45,500 people have been killed in Gaza, virtually reducing the enclave to rubble. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, both for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice due to its war on the enclave.
