The federal government has acted against two international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) accused of illegal practices.
These organizations have been directed to cease operations from the country by the Ministry of Interior with regard to two US-funded bodies, namely Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Vital Strategies. The administrations of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and all provinces have been given a directive to ensure the closure of these organizations.

The State Bank of Pakistan has also been directed to freeze their bank accounts. The Ministry has further directed for the immediate closure of offices operated by these INGOs in the country.
As per the sources, both these organizations have been operating in Pakistan for several years but have not acquired necessary permission from the government. It has also been found that they have established linkages with the Ministry of Health even in unregistered status.
Neither Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids nor Vital Strategies is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) or the Economic Affairs Division, creating a potential legal breach status with regard to local laws. The action is part of the nationwide sweep to clean NGOs operated illegally violating requirements of laws.
